A Timeless Classic Reimagined — Porsche Design Launches Its First Uncoated Titanium Timepiece for the General Public

In a significant milestone for watch enthusiasts and Porsche fans alike, Porsche Design has introduced the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition, crafted from uncoated titanium. This launch was celebrated at the Watches of Switzerland SoHo flagship store in New York, marking the start of an exclusive retail collaboration between the two brands.

This release is especially notable as it’s the first time an uncoated version of the Chronograph 1 is being offered outside Porsche’s automotive partnerships, giving collectors a rare chance to own a piece of horological history.

Honoring the Legacy of 1975

This latest edition is a tribute to the 1975 stainless steel model of the original Chronograph I, which itself evolved from F.A. Porsche’s revolutionary all-black design introduced in 1972. Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the creative mind behind the iconic Porsche 911, brought his “form follows function” philosophy into the world of luxury timepieces. The 1975 version reflected this mindset perfectly — combining minimalist aesthetics with functionality, which even inspired military-grade chronographs favored by elite air and naval forces.

Built from Titanium, Inspired by the Past

Fast-forward to today — the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition returns in a modern avatar, this time forged in lightweight titanium, a nod to Porsche Design’s 1980 innovation of the world’s first all-titanium wristwatch. With its matte-black dial and high-contrast white markers, the watch offers maximum legibility in any lighting.

Enhanced visibility comes courtesy of Super-LumiNova-coated hour markers and baton hands. A precision-tipped rectangular minute hand sweeps clearly across the dial’s outer ring, which includes a tachymeter scale. One of its standout features is the dual-language date display (German and English) — a subtle blend of function and international appeal.

Both the modern Porsche Design logo and the original historic emblem are proudly displayed on the dial, bridging heritage with contemporary design.

Design Meets Performance: The Engine Inside

The 40.8mm case, with a thickness of 14.15mm, is glass bead-blasted for a sleek matte finish. It’s paired with a matching titanium bracelet and folding clasp, all engraved with the classic Porsche Design symbol. This minimalist approach mirrors the engineering elegance of Porsche’s high-performance vehicles.

Inside the case beats the Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.240, a COSC-certified Flyback chronograph movement. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it offers a 48-hour power reserve and is visible through an engraved titanium case back that proudly reads “Flyback Automatic.”

Exclusivity in Every Detail

This limited-edition chronograph is restricted to only 350 pieces worldwide, with a price tag of $9,650 USD. Given its craftsmanship, heritage, and scarcity, the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition is not just a watch — it’s a collector’s dream and a wearable legacy.
